Dodge Nitro is the first compact sport utility from Dodge after discontinuing the production of Raider in 1990. It went on sale in August 2006. It is offered in either four wheel drive or in rear wheel drive.
First Generation (2007-Present)
The initial model released in 2007 was offered in either four wheel drive or in two wheel drive. The standard engine to the model include a 3.7 liter V6 version, while it also offered 4.0 liter V6 engine as optional. Three models were offered, base model SXT, SLT and up-level R/T. The compact model was redesigned slightly in 2008 and it was offered in only two trim levels, SXT and SLT. The engines remain same in the second generation that comes mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission.
Current generation Dodge Nitro is offered in only single trim model, SXT. The standard engine remains same, but produces more power, 210 hp. It is mated to 4-speed automatic. It also offers 4.0 liter V6 version as optional. The sole transmission to both the engines include 4-speed automatic.
The standard features in all Dodge Nitro model include satellite radio, power windows and doors locks, power driver seat, remote keyless entry, power mirror, alloy wheels, compass, exterior temperature display, trip computer and cruise control. Standard safety features include tire pressure monitor, side curtain air bags, front side air bags, active head restraints, stability control with roll over mitigation and brake assist system.
